This new state of the art facility in Worthing provides accommodation for 24 in-patients, as well as out-patients and administrative facilities. We were appointed at the project’s inception – early enough to assist in the design of the form, materials and passive measures incorporated within the building structure.
Our Building Services Engineers helped optimise its design, working in conjunction with the project’s architects to deliver detailed calculations, backed up with thermal modelling to analyse daylight, natural ventilation and thermal performance to critical spaces – reducing energy consumption and improving internal conditions. Wind modelling was also carried out to ensure occupant comfort to the external areas.
Detailed feasibility studies included the use of a ground source reversible heat pump and a combined heat and power plant (CHP) which proved that it would be cost effective for the scheme due to the high domestic water loads.
