Ashwicken Primary School is situated three miles from the outskirts of Kings Lynn.

The project involved the demolition of the existing undersize main school building that was no longer fit for purpose. The new single storey building (GIA: 840sqm) has an efficient layout incorporating three classrooms, library, main hall, canteen facility and staff/admin services.

The school has been designed to create a clear and legible link between spaces, to be simple for pupils, staff and visitors to navigate and for the relationships between spaces to be logical and intuitive. Where the classroom wing and main hall are elevated, it provides greater internal volume for these prominent areas.

The external fabric of the building is white render and has been ‘punctured’ to reveal vivid orange cladding recesses that leads to the classrooms and the main entrance.

All classrooms are purposefully south facing, with full height glazing, a canopy which provides the required solar shading, and a roof pitched to enable natural cross ventilation via the high-level north facing windows.
