This school replacement project consolidated two existing schools into a new site for 950 pupils in Scunthorpe.

Sustainability was a key factor for our Building Services Engineers who were part of the design team for this £18m project.

The design was developed as a modern campus-style facility, resembling a smart higher education or business campus. At its heart is the Forum, a mixing space for the whole school. Branching from this are smaller Home Base communities which give the feeling of a ‘school within a school’.

The chosen materials have a high thermal mass to limit summertime over-heating, and high levels of insulation and air-tightness will reduce heating needs in winter. The design was also developed to deliver optimal day lighting and natural ventilation, with brise soleil external shading controlling solar gains.
